Step 6 ... Stitching the Details

This part takes forever! I use an embroidery foot on my Bernina sewing machine. They sewing machine is my gigantic electronic pencil. It is my art machine.

I use a variety of rayon and metallic threads to stitch between the gradations of color and texture created by the felting process.

It's like tracing nature.

More obsessive than leaping from tall buildings, I love stitching! It requires close work, then distance, steadfast devotion and eternal patience, because the threads inevitably break, so the needle must be constantly re-threaded.

I used to curse (Oh darn!) and swear (My dear!) until I realized that it was some kind of spiritual test. I must the the Gandhi of surface design by now.

Learning to love this process has been my Great Teacher.
